AFI Fest 2026 Unveils Eclectic Lineup With Cannes Winners and International Gems
The American Film Institute’s flagship festival is set to showcase 157 films from 50 countries, including Cannes prize-winners and acclaimed indie titles, with tickets on sale October 3.

AFI Fest’s 2026 lineup reads like a who’s who of the international festival circuit, with a mix of Cannes laureates, Berlinale winners, and bold new voices. Among the standouts is Lee Chang-dong’s 'Possible Love,' fresh off Venice’s Silver Lion, signaling indie cred and emotional depth. Ryūsuke Hamaguchi’s 'All of a Sudden,' which snagged Cannes’ top prize, features Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto in a contemplative drama that’s poised to turn heads at Hollywood’s fall event.
The festival’s international scope extends to Werner Herzog’s 'Bucking Fastard,' a wily fantasy comedy starring Kate and Rooney Mara, and Andrew Haigh’s 'A Long Winter,' boasting a cast led by Fred Hechinger and Caitríona Balfe. The lineup also includes Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert’s 'The Idiot(s),' with Johnny Flynn and Aimee Lou Wood. These titles highlight AFI’s commitment to showcasing both established auteurs and emerging talents.
Highlighting the festival’s curated nature, the North American premiere of Asghar Farhadi’s 'Parallel Tales' features a star-studded cast including Isabelle Huppert and Vincent Cassel. Céline Sciamma’s 'Tutti Frutti,' which premiered earlier this year at the Centre Pompidou, will also make its U.S. debut, adding to the festival’s focus on contemporary European auteurs.

Other notable films include Berlinale’s Golden Bear winner 'Yellow Letters' by İlker Çatak, and Markus Schleinzer’s 'Rose,' with Sandra Hüller, which took Silver Bear for best lead. Cannes' Un Certain Regard prizewinner 'Everytime' by Sandra Wollner and Marine Atlan’s 'La Gradiva' are among the festival’s selections, alongside a diverse range of debut features and internationally acclaimed works. The lineup is rounded out with films from directors like Ali Asgari, Clio Barnard, Anthony Chen, Quentin Dupieux, and Radu Jude, reflecting AFI’s diverse programming strategy.
Tickets for AFI Fest go on sale October 3, with the festival running from October 21-25. The full lineup can be explored on the AFI website, offering cinephiles a chance to see some of the most exciting films of the year before they hit wider release.
